Apr 1, 2006 12:00 PM, BY DOUG MOHNEY

The Alaska Department of Commerce has partnered with radio frequency identification solutions vendor Franwell on a pilot study that will field test RFID and GPS tracking technology.

The goal is to determine whether these technologies can be used to improve accountability, delivery confirmation, security, quality and safety of shipments associated with the Alaska Food Aid project.

Also participating is the University of Florida's research center for food distribution and retailing and ISR Systems, which is contributing the GPS tracking system.
