Alien Technology and Microsoft have achieved compatibility between Alien’s ALR-9800 enterprise radio frequency identification (RFID) reader and Microsoft’s RFID infrastructure, both of which will be supported by Microsoft’s RFID technology.

The RFID Infrastructure is designed to enable deployment of RFID capabilities and management of RFID data across the enterprise--including the integration of RFID data with enterprise business applications and real-time processes. It is based upon the software giant’s .NET Framework and includes device- and event-management layers that can be used by third party applications.

Alien’s ALR-9800 reader was designed for EPC Class I Gen 2 compatibility and enterprise deployment. It enables enterprise scaling of RFID by reducing the costs of implementation, simplifying on-going reader management and integration with enterprise networks, and permitting large numbers of readers to operate together in close proximity.
