It’s a New Day at MRT
With this January issue, we are a “new” MRT. We have a new editor, Glenn Bischoff, and senior writer Donny Jackson. With more than 40 years of journalism experience between them, these communications and technology editorial veterans bring strong senior vision and reporting talent to our publication. See Donny’s cover story, “Disaster Recovery,” for an idea of the editorial coverage you now can expect from MRT. We also added a senior two-person art and design team, Sheila Schirz and Anne Baesemann, so you’ll see improved layouts and graphics as well.
These changes accomplish two goals we had to achieve in order to create the best and most relevant publication for our readers and advertisers. First, expand the editorial resources and talent at MRT to provide our readers with the information, insight and analysis that these challenging times demand. Second, ensure there is no mistaking our total commitment to covering the land mobile radio and private wireless markets in which our readers and advertisers spend their professional lives. As always, let us know how we are doing — every month we publish MRT to serve your professional needs, so keep the comments and ideas coming. We truly welcome them.
Radio Club of America
I attended the Radio Club of America banquet in New York City in October. Having only recently been named MRT’s publisher, the evening was an eye-opener for me. To witness this gathering of industry pioneers and see them recognized for their genius and hard work was inspiring.
It’s easy to forget that many of the technologies that today seem so commonplace are the hard-won results of the men and women who gathered at this banquet. So let me start the New Year by asking you to do yourself — and them — a favor by joining the RCA. I guarantee you will enjoy the camaraderie of the individuals who built the technologies and the industry we all call home.
More importantly, RCA needs your time and investment. It is an outstanding organization that plays a key role in providing future leadership and direction to our industry. You can help shape that agenda by becoming a member. It’s easy to do — membership forms are available at www.radio-club-of-america.org. Just as the commercial says, “membership has its privileges,” and it was indeed a privilege for me to watch the awards ceremonies at last year’s banquet. Make sure you join, so I don’t have all the fun and good times this year. By doing so, you will have a hand in creating the 21st century version of this vital industry.
Last, but not least, to all our advertisers and readers we wish a safe and prosperous 2004.
