Report: McDowell could be confirmed to FCC next week
Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) said he hopes his committee will vote on the confirmation of Republican FCC nominee Robert McDowell next Friday, a committee source said.
Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) said he hopes his committee will vote on the confirmation of Republican FCC nominee Robert McDowell next Friday, a committee source said today.
McDowell’s nomination hearing yesterday was relatively quick and was characterized by a notable lack of criticism or probing questions, according to several media reports. If the Senate Commerce Committee votes favorably for McDowell, the full Senate would consider his nomination at a later date.
If McDowell is confirmed, the FCC would have its full allotment of five commissioners for the first time since former Chairman Michael Powell resigned a year ago. The FCC has been divided 2-2 on a partisan basis since that time.
