GammaTech adds fully rugged notebook to its DURABOOK line
Key features of the DURABOOK R8300 include a 13.3-inch touch-screen LCD display that enables direct-sunlight readability for users working outside in a bright environment.
“It hits the sweet spot of 13.3 inches—sometimes 14 or 15 inches is too large or too heavy, and 12 inches is sometimes too small,” Kim said.
Other notable features of the DURABOOK R8300 are its solid-state drive, fingerprint security, and a mobile Intel QM77 express chipset that provides integrated USB 3.0, Rapid Storage Technology and Intel Anti-Theft technology that allows the device to be disabled if lost or stolen, according to a GammaTech press release. In addition, the GammaTech notebook display has a 4:3 aspect ratio supports a lot of legacy software, Kim said.
A lithium-ion battery provides eight hours of power that can be extended to 12 hours by installing a second battery according to the GammaTech press release. Kim said that the DURABOOK R8300 is about $500 less than the leading competitor model.
“With this type of battery life, factory-direct support, and factory-direct pricing, I think it's going to be getting the core market that still needs this type of rugged product line in that extreme environment,” he said.
