Nokia and Harris team to provide deployable LTE solution
Deployable solutions, which are expected to play a supporting role in the development of the nationwide public-safety broadband network being built by FirstNet, can be tailored to suit the needs of the user, Combs said.
“We’ve taken care of the communications suite. We’re ensuring that it works. Now, let’s talk about the mechanics,” Combs said. “‘OK, it has to be trailable by a Ford F150 pickup, because that’s what we like in Texas.’ OK, let’s change the footprint. Or ‘It has to be an incident command post. I’ve got to have a coffee pot, a desk and a 50-inch monitor.’ Or ‘I’m going to fight a fire out in the middle of nowhere, and I need to have a short-wheel base, so I can drive up and down mountain roads.’
“It’s really customized to the environment that it’s going to operate in generally. So we just took a stab at it and said, ‘Here’s one. We made an investment. We’re putting it on the street and we’re more than happy to talk to you about what it is you want and how you want to use it for your constituents.’”
