Pryme Radio Products features Bluetooth accessories in latest additions to product portfolio
Pryme’s WTX is the company's second-generation wireless PTT kit with a radio adapter and a finger PTT switch that uses Bluetooth Low Energy technology to extend battery life for up to two years. The PTT switch has a Velcro strap that allows it to be mounted on a variety of surfaces, including a steering wheel or the handlebars of a motorcycle or bicycle—allowing for convenient access, which has important safety implications, George said.
“We have a lot of people that come to us and say, ‘I just need a way to do the PTT. I’m police officer on a bicycle, and I can talk and listen just fine, but every time I reach down to push PTT, I crash my bike,’” George said. “They don’t want to spend $200 to do that, so this package is going to be more in the $60 range.”
Some of the company’s other products showcased during IWCE 2015 included:
- The NEP-BH ear-bone microphone that uses vibration-detection technology to transmit voice communications. The offering is ideal for use in high-noise environments and when discretion is wanted, George said.
- The HZT Bowman-style tactical headset, which is a commercial-grade version of $600 military Bowman-style headsets that will sell for $50 or $60, George said. Although not as robust as the military version, this Pryme headset “is not a toy,” he said. Designed primarily for Airsoft and Paintball enthusiasts—“a whole new market segment for us”—Pryme believes the headset also will attract interest from other sporting arenas requiring a helmet, as well as budget-conscious transportation and public-safety entities, according to George.
- The HLP-Mobile Series lightweight, wired, padded headset designed for mobile radios that features and over-the-head design and a boom microphone. A key feature is its plug-and-play capability—no reprogramming of the radio is required, George said, noting the technical challenges associated with making this a reality. “I bet we built 50 prototypes before we got it the way we wanted.”
Of the products highlighted at IWCE 2015, all are expected to be available by the end of April except the BTH-300, which is expected to be available in May.
