Another key feature is that BeSafe verifies all of the information about a facility, according to Kevin Harrington, the company’s founder and COO.
“Once we contract with a client, we help them gather the information, and then we physically go through each building to verify that information,” Harrington said. “The school administrators and facility managers have an active role in this—we ask them a lot of questions.”
The solution also provides a measure of interactivity for first responders. In an active-shooter scenario, SWAT officers can use the interface to indicate the rooms that have been cleared as they conduct a room-by-room search; when they click on a room that is depicted on the school’s floor plan, it changes in color from yellow to green, which gives incident commanders a quick-to-discern visual update of their progress.
Similarly, if signals from a large number of cell phone calls were emanating from a specific area, such as a cafeteria, classroom or auditorium, that room would be highlighted in red, because it could be an indication that the shooter is near the room.
