Cox, Horowitz named as new FirstNet board members
Returning to the FirstNet board are McGinnis and Parker, both of whom will start new three-year terms. McGinnis is an original member of the FirstNet board, serving as its EMS expert and has played a critical role in FirstNet’s outreach efforts to tribal nations. Parker, the mayor of Houston, joined the FirstNet board last year.
FirstNet Chairwoman Sue Swenson said she is “pleased” with the additions of Cox and Horowitz to the board.
“Joining us are Neil Cox and Ed Horowitz, both of whom have extensive experience and expertise in the communications industry,” Swenson said in a prepared statement that was issued separate from the Commerce department announcement. “We also welcome back both Chief Kevin McGinnis and Mayor Annise Parker. They are being reappointed and bring critical public safety (EMS) insights and local government experience to the Board.
“I also want to take this opportunity to thank Tim Bryan and Frank Plastina for their contributions to FirstNet. Tim joined the board at its inception and has been FirstNet's Finance Chair during his tenure, bringing both his financial and industry expertise to many important discussions at FirstNet. He also gave generously of this time to important Governance and Personnel matters. Frank joined the Board last year, and in a very short time helped shape FirstNet's acquisition process and provided much valuable input to the Finance and Technology Committees.”
