FirstNet staff ‘ready to go’ after contract award is made; board opts to decline resolution vote
FirstNet Chairwoman Sue Swenson said such preparations are necessary for a successful network deployment and operation.
“When you move from concept and slideware to actual execution—and the FirstNet team and the board knows that I have been maniacally focused on being ready—this is the attention to detail that’s required to be effective when we’re finally able to execute.”
FirstNet CEO Mike Poth said that FirstNet would share the court decision with key stakeholders as soon as it is available. In the meantime, “we are going to continue to work with our acquisition partner—the Department of Interior—the Department of Commerce, DHS [the U.S. Department of Homeland Security], DOJ [the U.S. Department of Justice] and OMB [the Office of Management and Budget] to continue to move forward,” he said.
Poth also said that he spoke with new Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross shortly after the Senate confirmed Ross to his cabinet post.
“The Secretary of Commerce and this entire administration is very excited about FirstNet and has committed to do everything they can to ensure its success, so that was very refreshing,” Poth said. “It’s so significant that Secretary Ross—in his first day, in a speech to all employees in the Department of Commerce—identified FirstNet as one of his top three priorities.”
