Harris introduces its first public-safety LTE smartphone, the rugged and glove-usable LMC-1000
With the look and feel of a commercial smarthphone, the LMC-1000 mobile communicator is designed to meet MIL-STD-810G for shock resistance and IP67 for water and dust protection, according to a Harris press release. Audio quality is enhanced with high-performance speakers and multiple microphones with active noise-cancellation capabilities.
Johnson said the LMC-1000 also has a full suite of security features, including tamper-detection, application-firewalling, secure-storage and integrity-check technology, as well as measures to ensure end-user security and privacy, such as encrypted mass memory and encrypted e-mail.
With the LMC-1000’s lithium-ion 2420mAh replaceable battery, the talk time on the device is an average of 10 hours on a single charge, and a charge can last 16 days in LTE standby mode, according to a Harris representative.
Expected to be available by the end of the year, the Android-based LMC-1000 can leverage several spectrum bands, including Band 14 for public safety, several U.S. carrier bands and international bands, according to Johnson. At least one U.S. carrier is expected to support the LMC-1000 on its network when the product is launched commercially, she said.
Harris will showcase the LMC-1000 this week at IWCE 2016, at Booth 1455.
