NICE Systems to highlight text-to-911 logging solution at NENA conference
Last month, the four largest U.S. wireless carriers—AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile—began making text-to-911 service available to any PSAP requesting it as part of a 2012 voluntary agreement reached with NENA and the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO). Meanwhile, the FCC has initiated a proceeding to explore the possibility of requiring all service providers to supply text-to-911 service, with final rules expected to be approved by the end of the year.
“Text-to-911 is an important NG-911 milestone and the first step toward richer PSAP communications with the public,” John Rennie, NICE Systems’ general manager for public safety, said in a prepared statement. “Recent FCC proposals are accelerating the pace toward more widespread deployment of text to 911, and other forms of multimedia communications are not far behind. NICE is committed to providing innovative solutions to help 911 centers manage the coming wave of text to 911 and other next-gen communications.”
In addition to the text-to-911 logging capability, NICE Systems will be demonstrating its solutions for video management, situation management, workforce management and web intelligence, Chaflawee said. These demonstrations can be seen on the NENA exhibit floor at the NICE Systems booth, #615.
