Atheros Communications’ XSPAN 802.11 solutions with Direct Connect technology are among the first to be Wi-Fi certified for Wi-Fi Direct, indicating their ability to work with other Wi-Fi products that offer Wi-Fi peer-to-peer features. By allowing two or more Wi-Fi devices to communicate without an access point, Direct Connect lets people do more with their wireless products – even in the absence of a broadband connection or local area network.

The Wi-Fi Alliance has also chosen Atheros’ popular dual-band 802.11n PCIe solution with Direct Connect for the Wi-Fi Direct test environment, which is used to certify the interoperability of other products. Atheros expects to have a full line of XSPAN multi-stream 11n and Align single-stream 11n products Wi-Fi Direct Certified before the end of 2010. This will give Atheros’ computing and mobile customers a head-start to implementing innovative peer-to-peer features and earning their own Wi-Fi Direct certification.
