RG530: The ideal device for Mission Critical Organisations to migrate to smartphone-based PTT communication

The increasingly widespread adoption of secure smartphone-based PTT technology is a necessary, essential evolutionary step for effective communication within mission critical organizations. The combination of network and mobile devices enables mission critical organisations’ staff to communicate securely via PTT and access comprehensive data and collaboration platforms through a single device. In the longer term, this offers a huge saving in technology costs. RugGear’s RG530 smartphone, designed specifically for MCPTT, enables mission critical organizations to communicate securely, seamlessly and across organisations, saving time and resources.

PTT has long been the basis of field communication for mission critical organizations. Members of public safety organizations are used to being able to contact headquarters or their colleagues at the touch of a button. The increasingly widespread switch to a smartphone-based group communication option in the field will certainly bring some initial conversion challenges for the users, but on the whole it will bring many advantages. At RugGear, we ensure that there are no challenges for the end user in terms of technology change.

The adoption of secure smartphone-based PTT technology is a necessary, essential evolutionary step for effective communication within mission critical organizations. The combination of network and mobile devices enables mission critical organizations’ staff to communicate securely PTT and access comprehensive data and collaboration platforms through a single device. In the longer term, this offers a huge saving in technology costs. RugGear’s RG530 smartphone, designed specifically for MCPTT, enables mission critical organizations and businesses to communicate securely, incident-free and across organizations, saving time and resources.

Smartphone-based PTT can solve interoperability problems caused by traditional LMR. For example, with the traditional system, inter-agency group communication is usually not possible for requests for assistance, which is no longer a problem with smartphone-based PTT communication. In addition to this the smartphone can be equipped with many other applications, for instance maintenance, lone worker protection or virtual reality.

With Mission Critical Push-To-Talk devices and solutions, organizations can now make individual or group calls and messages in a trouble-free, fast and secure manner, and send inter-organisational requests for assistance to other organizations, for example. RugGear has developed the RG530 specifically for these purposes, which is ideally suited for PTT communication in the field of public safety. Especially in emergency situations, every second counts for first responders. Thanks to the large PTT button, the device can be easily operated even when wearing gloves. The SOS button, for example, allows immediate contact with the pre-set emergency centre. A long-life, powerful battery guarantees smooth operation even during long working shifts. Thanks to special surfaces and materials (Corning Gorilla Glass III and TPU) of the RG530, the device can be cleaned regularly with a disinfectant solution of 70% alcohol and distilled water or soap solution without damage. The RG530, certified by US military standard 810H, is also suitable for team communication with critical applications in the security and defense sector. It is also the ideal all-in-one device in the industrial and logistics sector for the easy integration of industrial-, PTT-, but also applications from leading MCPTT suppliers.

The smartphone-based MCPTT communication offers first responders and paramedics, for example, the possibility to share and exchange real-time data, voice updates and ECGs with the special departments in the hospital while the patient is still being transported. The 13-pin interface allows an RSM or PTT headset to be connected for ease of use. Police or law enforcement agencies in particular also use PTT-enabled smartphones to view real-time surveillance cameras. Also, quick access to the computerized operations plan, which was previously done via laptops, can now be done anywhere mobile from the smartphone, which greatly increases the effectiveness of operations.

Status quo and prospect

MCPTT is regulated by Mission Critical Push-To-Talk via LTE standards of the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP). LTE-based public network communication for public safety has been recognized worldwide. The trend is towards integrated development of communication technology through lower investment, faster implementation, high reach and reliability. The primary objective of 3GPP is to enable all relevant public safety authorities and organizations to use the same technology and uniform communication over the same frequency through MCPTT, thus making communication more efficient and, especially in crisis situations, faster. Especially in the transport sector (rail, air) there are more and more tenders for uniform systems to replace GSM-R, TETRA and DECT networks and equipment. This will gradually be transferred to more and more industrial sectors in the near future. This will gradually be transferred to more and more industrial sectors in the near future. These new challenges will require reliable mobile devices such as the RG530, which enables smooth communication from the hardware and software side.
