Nextivity buys HPUE tech company Assured Wireless

Nextivity today announced the acquisition of Assured Wireless, the maker of high-power user equipment (HPUE) is used most by organization with broadband communications operating on the 700 MHz Band 14 spectrum licensed to the FirstNet Authority.

Assured Wireless gained notoriety in the public-safety arena as the pioneer in HPUE technology, which supports connectivity of 1.25 watts—six times the power level of ordinary commercial devices—that enable a device’s effective broadband coverage to improve by 80%. Assured Wireless manufactures both standalone products and an HPUE modem that can be embedded in other solutions, such as the Airgain HPUE antenna.

These HPUE solutions—used primarily to extend coverage outdoors—now complement the already robust Nextivity portfolio of “intelligent cellular coverage solutions,” including a public-safety bi-directional amplifier (BDA) and a FirstNet-oriented DAS solution. Both products are designed to address the long-standing challenge of ensuring that first responders can communicate while working inside of buildings and other structures.

“With the addition of HPUE from Assured Wireless, Nextivity is now able to offer a complete portfolio of solutions to address all communications needs, anywhere, at any time,” according to a Nextivity press release issued about the deal.

A Nextivity spokesperson with Nextivity confirmed to IWCE’s Urgent Communications confirmed that that the deal has closed. Terms of the agreement are not being disclosed.

Following the acquisition of Assured Wireless, Nextivity will rebrand its suite of public-safety solutions within its suite of SHIELD offerings. According to the Nextivity press release, notable examples will include:

• SHIELD SOLO (formerly SOLO RED), the new 0.5W dual-band public safety BDA solution;
• SHIELD EXTEND (formerly QUATRA RED), the 1W-6W flexible dual-band public safety plus FirstNet DAS solution; and
• SHIELD MegaRange HPUE.

Nextivity CEO Michiel Lotter expressed enthusiasm about his company’s future with the addition of Assured Wireless.

Assured Wireless CEO John Goocher echoed this sentiment.
