T-Mobile chief names CEO, leaves

T-Mobile USA announced that it promoted company President Robert Dotson to the additional role of chief executive.

Dotson will take over the U.S. daily operations of the mobile phone provider from John Stanton.

Stanton said the transition is a result of T-Mobile growing quickly under Dotson’s efforts.

Dotson was named chief operating officer of T-Mobile USA in 2001 and became president last year.

Stanton later added that he planned on stepping down as a chief executive — indicating a desire to pursue a career in politics.

Stanton remains chairman of the board of T-Mobile USA, and chairman and chief executive of Western Wireless.

Atheros names CEO

Atheros Communications Inc. announced that Dr. Craig Barratt has been appointed president and chief executive officer.

Barratt joined Atheros in April of last year as vice president of technology. Former CEO Rich Redelfs will take on the role of vice chairman of the board of directors.

Barratt’s transition to CEO is effective immediately.

Prior to his role as vice president of technology for Atheros, Barratt served as executive vice president and general manager at ArrayComm Inc.

Barratt holds a doctorate in electrical engineering from Stanford University

Cometa Networks names CEO

Cometa Networks Inc. announced the appointment of Gary Weis as president and CEO and as a director.

Weis retired as senior vice president — global services at AT&T, and held senior executive positions within IBM Corp. and in separate IBM and AT&T joint ventures.

As senior vice president of Global Services at AT&T, Weis, 55, was responsible for one of the world’s largest data and IP networks serving more than 30,000 businesses and providing Internet access to more than one million individuals worldwide.

While at AT&T, Weis also was CEO of Concert, the joint venture between AT&T and British Telecom.

Co-founder and interim CEO Larry Brilliant will continue to be active with Cometa as vice chairman of the board and chair of Cometa’s technical advisory board.

Wineland takes Tait reins

Tait North America announced the appointment of Tom Wineland as president of Tait North America.

Most recently, Wineland served as president of the former Kenwood Communications USA.

Wineland replaces John Warren, who is taking up another senior role within Tait’s international operations.

Mander said that he expects Wineland to play a key role in Tait’s heightened focus on the North America mobile radio market.

His appointment coincides with Tait’s announcement of its new generation products at IWCE.

Mander also announced that the role of another well known North America industry identity, Mike Fraser, is to be expanded.

Ex-EDS exec signs on with Lucent

Lucent Technologies executives announced that the company has tapped a former Electronic Data Systems executive to become president of its worldwide services group.

Lucent officials said John Meyer, formerly president of information technology management services EDS, would begin his new job April 1.

Meyer will replace John Heindel, who is leaving Lucent to pursue other opportunities.

Meyer will report to Robert Holder, Lucent’s chief operating officer.

EDS names new leadership

EDS announced a new executive management team, naming Michael H. Jordan as chairman and chief executive officer and Jeffrey M. Heller as president and chief operating officer, effective immediately.

Jordan, the former chairman and CEO of CBS Corp., replaces Richard H.Brown.

Jordan retired as chairman and chief executive officer of CBS Corp. (formerly Westinghouse Electric Corp.) in December 1998, after leading it through one of the most comprehensive transformations in corporate history.

Before joining Westinghouse, Jordan was a partner with Clayton, Dubilier and Rice, a private equity firm in New York.

Previously, he spent 18 years with PepsiCo, Inc. During this time, he served in numerous senior executive positions, including CFO of PepsiCo, Inc. and President and CEO of PepsiCo WorldWide Foods, which includes Frito-Lay.

From 1964 to 1974, he was a consultant and principal with McKinsey & Co.

Heller retired from EDS in February 2002, after 34 years with the company, most recently in the position of vice chairman.

Heller returns as president and chief operating officer, a role in which he served from 1996 to 2000.

Heller joined EDS in 1968 as a systems engineering trainee.

Due to the management change, EDS will reschedule its 2003 Annual Shareholders Meeting from April 22 to May 20.

Leffler joins PRYME Radio Products

PRYME Radio Products has announced that Alan F. Leffler has been hired as the company’s new vice president of sales. According to the company’s announcement, Leffler will be responsible for all sales and new business development.

Leffler comes to PRYME with more than 20 years of extensive experience in the telecom and wireless industry having been employed by major companies including Motorola Inc. and Celwave-RFS in senior sales, sales management, strategic marketing, field marketing and business development roles.

Recently he was elected a “Fellow” in the Radio Club of America and was active on the APCO Commercial Advisory Committee as Recording Secretary and Regional Co-Chairman.

He is also an Amateur Radio Operator, call sign N7WYE.

Leffler will work from a new PRYME field office in Park City, Utah.

Interactive Enterprise names VP

Interactive Enterprise Ltd. has announced the appointment of Thomas A. Connor as vice president of sales for North America and Saeed Anwar as principal systems engineer to spearhead the company’s sales efforts in North America.

Tom Connor is a sales executive with more than 20 years experience in growing information technology companies. He was general manager of broadband strategy for Narus Inc., where he directed the sales, marketing, and engineering initiatives.

As vice president of strategic broadband services for Broadband Access Systems he created and directed a national field sales and support operation to penetrate the top MSOs.

Connor also has worked in senior sales positions at Argon Networks, FORE Systems, Digital Communications Associates and Racal Data Communications.

Saeed Anwar holds a master’s in engineering from the University of Cambridge and an M.Sc. in telecommunications systems from the University of Essex. He has worked in the telecom industry for nearly 20 years with a focus on OSS. Anwar has served as System Architect at ISR Global Telecom and Senior Analyst for OSS with RHK, a firm specializing in Industry Analysis of advanced technologies for telecommunications. His experience includes a wide variety of transmission and switching equipment and he has extensive knowledge of communications protocols, management of complex networks, and operations support systems.

Cramer names Americas leader

Cramer Systems announced the promotion of David Canellos to vice president and general manager — Americas. In his new role, Canellos will lead Cramer’s rapid expansion in the Americas, taking charge of operations and sales for the company on two continents.

Canellos joined Cramer in November 2001 as vice president of sales for North America.

Canellos came to Cramer from Oracle Corp., where he was in charge of Latin American sales of Oracle’s e-Business suite to telecommunications companies. Prior to Oracle, Canellos was a sales executive at Versatility Inc., a customer relationship management software vendor.

On the delivery side, Canellos’s credits include SAIC, Federal Home Loan Bank, and Calibre Systems.

PCTEL board elects corporate officer

PCTEL, Inc. has announced that its board of directors has unanimously elected Carlton Aihara to become an officer of the company. Carlton is PCTEL’s Vice President of Global Sales.

Aihara is a veteran with more than 20 years of sales and marketing experience in leading technology firms. Mr. Aihara joined PCTEL in 1998 as Director of Northern Asian sales, and contributed to PCTEL’s successful initial public offering in 1999. He was later promoted to run PCTEL’s Asia Pacific team.

In 2002, he was given responsibility to run PCTEL’s Global Sales Organization. Prior to PCTEL, Aihara has held various executive positions at Adaptec, Inc., Sandisk, Inc., Conner Peripherals and Epson.

PCTEL also announced that Marc Cremer has joined PCTEL as Vice President of North American Sales. Cremer brings 15 years experience in executive semiconductor and software sales management, sales and applications engineering with leading technology firms.

Cremer also has been appointed an officer of the company by PCTEL’s board of directors.

Prior to joining PCTEL, Cremer served as the Director of Global Sales for the Networking and Computing Systems Group within Motorola’s Semiconductor Products Sector (SPS). Cremer managed and directed the global sales resources focused on advancing the Motorola Semiconductor market leadership position in integrated communications processors, host processors, digital signal processors, and network processors. He directly managed a staff of 12 managers and 80+ North American sales and field applications engineers.

Cremer also served as the Senior Director of Worldwide sales for Motorola’s Software Products Division, responsible for Motorola’s soft modem products. Additionally, he has held executive sales and business development positions at Catalyst Semiconductor, Rohm Corporation and Xicor.

ITT, Cannon names new VP

ITT Industries, Cannon, announced the installment of Randy Gorrell as vice president and director of human resources.

Gorrell will report to Garry Gendron, senior vice president of of ITT and president of Cannon.

According to the corporate release, “Gorrell will have worldwide responsibility for Cannon’s human resources initiatives, including organizational development recruitment, leadership development, employee relations, training, compensation, benefits employee communications and key human capital programs.

Gorrell most recently worked as senior vice president of human resources with NWP Service Corp.

Before that, Gorrell was managing director and partner-in-charge of human capital and organizational development at Westar Capital.

D&A announces promotions

Craig Moseley has been promoted to executive vice president of Daniels & Associates, the Denver-based media and telecommunications mergers and acquisitions specialist.

As a founding member of Daniels’ Internet Technologies Group, Moseley provides mergers and acquisitions and financial advisory services to Internet companies. In his new role, Moseley will manage the Internet Technologies Group at the firm.

Before joining Daniels in 1993, Moseley had over 10 years of experience as a financial professional within the computer and telecommunications industries.

Steve Hubbard has been promoted to vice president at Daniels & Associates as well.

Hubbard provides mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and financial advisory services to clients in the information technology and telecommunications industries.

Hubbard was a vice president of mergers and acquisitions at Sakura Bank, one of the largest banks in the world, where he focused on cross-border transactions involving clients’ U.S. technology subsidiaries.

He also spent two years as an associate for the Platinum Group, a mergers and acquisitions business specializing in information technology.

FCC announces staff changes

FCC Commissioner Jonathan S. Adelstein announced several staffing change.

He announced that Barry Ohlson will be his permanent Wireless Legal Advisor, and that Johanna Mikes will be his permanent Media Advisor, effective March 31, replacing Sarah Whitesell, who has served as interim Media Advisor since the Commissioner took office in December.

Prior to joining the commissioner’s office, Ohlson was Chief of the Policy Division in the FCC’s Wireless Telecommunications Bureau.

He also has served as a legal adviser to the Wireless Bureau Chief and as acting Chief of the Public Safety and Private Wireless Division. Prior to joining the Commission, Ohlson spent four years at Winstar Communications Inc. as Senior Director for Federal Regulatory Affairs, in addition to serving as an associate at the law firms of McDermott, Will & Emery and at Keller and Heckman. Ohlson holds a J.D. from George Washington University and a B.A. from the College of William and Mary.

Mikes most recently has been Legislative Counsel for US Representative Rick Boucher, advising him on communications and intellectual property issues before the House Energy and Commerce and House Judiciary Committees, and assisting him in co-chairing the Congressional Internet Caucus.
