Federal Communications Commission Chairman Michael K. Powell announced that the Commission will launch an Enhanced 911 (E911) Coordination Initiative – a aimed at addressing E911 deployment.
The initiative’s first meeting is set for April 29.
Commissioners Jonathan Adelstein and Kathleen Abernathy explained that the meeting would follow up on the findings and recommendations contained in the Hatfield Report.
The meeting also will address implementation issues such as Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) funding, wireless carrier implementation and prioritization, issues relating to Local Exchange Carriers (LECs), and challenges faced by rural carriers.
