Four public-safety representatives are among the 15 members of the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) board that will lead the deployment and maintenance of a nationwide public-safety LTE network, Acting Secretary of Commerce Rebecca Blank announced during the APCO show
I’d like to make a few suggestions regarding the makeup of the vitally important FirstNet board. The first is that each of the three major disciplines that make up public safety — police, fire and EMS — should be represented by at least one board member, because these segments will be most affected by the deployment of this network.
Congress should reallocate the 10 MHz commercial D Block spectrum in the 700 MHz band for public-safety use, the board of the Public Safety Spectrum Trust (PSST) — the nationwide license of the public-safety broadband spectrum adjacent to the D Block — voted.
Although FCC officials publicly announced most aspects of the 700 MHz order in a variety of forums before the document was released, one notable surprise in the order was language stipulating representation on the public-safety licensee board of directors.
