The International Association of Fire Chiefs this week told its members that the Federal Communications Commission plans to cancel 3000 public-safety radio licenses on March 31, 2004. The FCC conducted an audit of the construction and operational status of private land mobile radio stations, including public-safety radio licenses operating below 800 MHz, and will cancel the licenses of licensees that have not responded to the audit, said the IAFC. Licensees have until March 27 to notify the FCC that their radio systems are still operating to avoid cancellation.
