The International Association of Fire Chiefs said this week that the Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association won’t stand in the way of the FCC’s recent order that calls for Nextel to reband 800 MHz airwaves to mitigate interference that compromises first-responder communications nationwide.
CTIA stated in a letter to IAFC President Ernie Mitchell, that “since the FCC has spoken, it will now work with IAFC and other public-safety organizations to remedy the interference as quickly as possible,” according to an IAFC press release. Previously, CTIA staunchly opposed rebanding, preferring instead the implementation of engineering best practices to solve the interference problems.
