Motorola said yesterday that it would acquire MeshNetworks, the Maitland, Fla.-based manufacturer of 802.11 peer-to-peer wireless broadband networks. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed, but Motorola said it expects the deal to close by the end of the year. Motorola said the acquisition would improve its ability to provide scaleable broadband wireless networks capable of delivering data, video, location and voice over IP services. A previous agreement between the companies calls for Motorola to license MeshNetwork’s MeshConnex software for 802.11 wireless LANs and distribute MeshNetwork’s Enabled Architecture product line via Motorola’s direct sales and reseller networks.
