M/A-COM radios pass interoperability test
Radios manufactured by M/A-COM were proven to be APCO Project 25 compliant during tests conducted this week in Arizona, the Oakland (Calif.) Tribune reported. The test was necessitated when the city of Oakland balked at purchasing the company’s radios unless they were proven capable of interoperable communications.
The radios were sent to Arizona, where several cities, including Phoenix pariticpate in a region-wide radio network that provides coverage over 2000 square miles. Once plugged into the network, M/A-COM’s radios were able to communicate with P25 radios manufactured by EFJohnson and Motorola, the newspaper said.
In other news, M/A-COM said it recently implemented as pilot program in the state of Texas to provide interoperable communications to various state and local public-safety agencies. The company’s VIDA (voice, interoperability, data, access) solution is providing the backbone infrastructure for the network. M/A-COM said it is using the pilot program also to demonstrate how an IP backbone could be used to implement other platforms, such as Wi-Fi and 700 MHz technologies.
