Nokia wins TETRA contract for Abu Dhabi police
Nokia today announced that the Ministry of the Interior of the United Arab Emirates has signed an agreement for the vendor to deploy a TETRA radio communications system for the Abu Dhabi police.
Part of the Ministry of Interior’s five-year plan to upgrade police work in the country, the new TETRA network will be designed to provide coverage throughout the Abu Dhabi Emirate. Nokia will provide the complete solution for the project, including more than 100 Nokia TB3 TETRA base stations.
“The very backbone of police work is the ability to communicate—instantly, reliably, and securely,” Lt. General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Interior, said in a prepared statement. “Choosing Nokia to implement the Policom network was the result of lengthy technical investigations and field tours conducted by our police communications experts. We also conducted a prolonged technical study on Nokia’s sophisticated TETRA system”.
