Mobile Satellite Ventures releases spectrum white paper
Mobile Satellite Ventures (MSV) recently released a white paper that examined the challenge of developing a next generation public-safety communications networks. Written by University of Colorado Professors Dale Hatfield and Phil Weiser, the paper recommended that public safety agencies look beyond using more spectrum dedicated to their private land mobile radio (LMR) systems.
The authors further suggested that the ideal public-safety communications system would incorporate traditional LMR into a broader architecture that includes satellite, terrestrial and emerging wireless broadband networks. In addition, they said policymakers should create pro-market and innovative spectrum policies to ensure satellite and terrestrial providers are able to develop more effective offerings for public-safety agencies.
