Where broadband is going
AT&T completed a local initiative to increase the wireless capacity of its 3G mobile broadband network in Manhattan, as well as the Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens. The network enhancement includes the addition of new layers of frequency to more efficiently manage available spectrum and increase 3G capacity, particularly in peak hours. The additions have been applied to nearly all cell sites in Manhattan and in other areas as needed throughout the Bronx, Queens and Brooklyn.
Meanwhile, T-Mobile USA now is offering voice and messaging services in the Gulf of Mexico using Broadpoint’s network. The companies plan to extend the offshore roaming agreement to include data service in the Gulf for T-Mobile customers this fall. Broadpoint’s GSM/GPRS/EDGE network extends over 100,000 square miles into the Gulf of Mexico.
