Motorola announces shipping plans for P25 Phase 2 TDMA
LAS VEGAS — Motorola Solutions today announced plans to begin shipping its ASTRO 25 systems with P25 Phase 2 TDMA trunking in August.
For existing ASTRO 25 customers, the end-to-end upgrade to P25 Phase 2 — including base stations, subscriber units and consoles — can be achieved via software upgrades, according to Brenda Herold, Motorola Solutions’ vice president of subscribers and infrastructure.
“I believe we’ll be the first to market with this [Phase 2 TDMA] functionality,” Herold said. “We currently have 10-plus contracts to deliver this already.”
Among the features included in the Motorola solution is one that is designed to help ease the migration from P25 Phase 1 to P25 Phase 2 for existing ASTRO 25 users, Herold said.
“We believe we have a differentiator in Motorola, in terms of dynamic dual mode, which is a feature that allows interoperability between Phase 1 and Phase 2, so the user doesn’t have to worry about where they are on the system and if the system is migrating but is not all Phase 2,” she said.
Motorola Solutions’ P25 Phase 2 TDMA capability will be displayed at the company’s booth during the International Wireless Communications Expo (IWCE) show this week.
