Tactivo hardens iPhone with smart card, fingerprint identification (with related video)

Government iPhone users can add smart-card and fingerprint-recognition security to their handhelds by putting them into Tactivo cases made by Precise Biometrics.

"Government employees have smart-card credentials — CAC, PIV, TWIC, and so on — and must use them for secure browsing and messaging," Precise Biometrics CTO Michael Harris said. "With Tactivo, employees can authenticate on their iPhones and iPads, broadening their ability to work securely when mobile.

"Our devices bridge the gap between desktop and mobile enterprise security, fully allowing for BYOD [bring your own device] and unified communications capabilities," he said.

Precision Biometrics expects to bring out of a version of Tactivo for the iPad later this year. The company's password-security app, BioSecrets, is now available at the Apple App Store.
