Briefs: FCC announces post-disaster hearings

The Federal Communications Commission announced that it will conduct a series of field hearings in 2013 in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy, which the commission said "revealed new challenges" to the nation's communications networks. The hearings will begin in New York City and will be conducted in locations across the country that have experienced natural disasters. The hearings will include business and public safety leaders, engineering and academic experts, and consumers, the commission said.

In other news, the FCC will consider a notice of proposed rulemaking regarding text-to-911 service during its December open meeting, which is scheduled to be held on Dec. 12.

RF Micro Devices releases power transistors

RF Micro Devices released two highly linear gallium nitride (GaN) RF unmatched power transistors. The RFHA3942 and RFHA3944 transistors are designed for broadband applications that require linear back-off operation or reduced spurious performance. They are tunable over a broad frequency range (DC to 4GHz) and provide continuous wave peak power of 35 W and 65 W, respectively.

Anritsu enhances handheld analyzer

Anritsu announced two enhancements to its LMR Master S412E handheld analyzer. One is a Project 25 Phase 2 signal analyzer that can be used to test both FDMA and TDMA systems, the company said. The other is an improved narrowband FM (NBFM) testing capability that allows users to generate CTCSS/DCS while in SINAD mode. Other features include: user-selectable C-message filtering on SINAD; the ability to adjust the deviation measurement to display a peak, RMS, or average value; and updated GUIs that improve usability by making measurements easier to make and read.
