Motorola Solutions acquires Trident Micro Systems

Motorola Solutions has acquired Trident Micro Systems, a developer of controllers for analog and digital LMR systems—notably, for Motorola Solutions’ Connect Plus offering in its MOTOTRBO platform—according to a Motorola Solutions spokeswoman.

“We did acquire them just recently in a very exciting acquisition for us,” Motorola Solutions spokeswoman Tama McWhinney said during an interview with IWCE’s Urgent Communications. “Basically, we’re acquiring them to allow us to accelerate our Connect Plus portfolio and solution offering … We’re looking forward to continuing innovation in that Connect Plus space with their employees.”

Trident Micro Systems is based in Arden, N.C., which is near the city of Asheville. The facility in Arden remains open, and the “majority” of Trident Micro Systems employees have been retained to be part of the Motorola Solutions team, McWhinney said.

Motorola Solutions closed the deal for Trident Micro Systems on Nov. 18, McWhinney said.
