AskRail: Charles Werner, Forrest Wieder highlight features of hazardous-materials app for rail cargo
Former fire chief Charles Werner and Forrest Wieder, general manager of the Security and Emergency Response Training Center (SERTC), outline the benefits of AskRail, a digital application that can be used to quickly identify which railroad cars contain hazardous materials–information that can have a significant impact on the strategies used by public safety and others responding to a train that has derailed or is otherwise involved in an incident.
Developed by the International Association of FIre Chiefs and the Association of American Railroads, the AskRail app and associated training is free, but qualified users are required to maintain their registration information on an annual basis.
