Motorola fourth-quarter sales jump year over year
Motorola recently announced fourth quarter 2004 sales of $8.84 billion, a 27% increase over the same quarter one year ago. Full-year sales were $31.3 billion, a 35% increase year over year. Net income for the quarter was $654 million, a 34% increase over the $489 million posted in fourth quarter 2005, while net income for all of 2004 was 1.54 billion, a 73% increase over the 893 million posted in the year-ago quarter.
Sales for the company’s Commercial, Government and Industrial Solutions sector were $1.3 billion, up 3% compared with the year-ago quarter. The sector reported operating earnings of $207 million, a 14% decrease year over year. Motorola attributed the decrease to expenses related to customer-specific research and development and in-process research and development associated with the acquisition of two companies acquired during the quarter. CGIS sales for full-year 2004 increased 11 percent and operating earnings increased 34 percent, Motorola said.
