CommScope unrolls wireless cables

CommScope Inc. has announced the introduction of a complete line of 50-ohm aluminum transmission line cables utilizing its smooth-wall cable design.

Offering wireless customers the advantages of lighter weight, greater flexibility and performance, Extremeflex cables have now joined the CommScope Wireless product line for wireless infrastructure transmission line systems.

With its lightweight aluminum outer conductor-a first for wireless transmission line cable-Extremeflex is made to exacting specifications that provide the conformability and flexibility necessary for demanding installations without sacrificing electrical, mechanical or environmental requirements.

Extremeflex has a smooth-wall design that enhances proper “first-time” connectorization. The smooth-wall design has a triple-bonded architecture with a closed microcell foam dielectric that is nearly watertight once connectors are properly installed.

Unlike traditional corrugated cable, CommScope’s smooth-wall design virtually eliminates water migration, which is believed to be the single biggest reason for cable failure and interruption of site service.

In addition, the excellent electrical properties of aluminum help keep attenuation loss to a minimum while its superior shielding and connector design minimize intermodulation associated with high radio frequency (RF) environments.

CommScope Wireless has shipped in excess of 20 million feet of 50-ohm smooth-wall cable to wireless infrastructure carriers in the U.S. and internationally with proven success in reliability, performance and service.

Extremeflex aluminum 50-ohm cables are available in 1/2″, 7/8″ and 1¼” flexible (FXL) cable designed for difficult installations, and ½” super flexible (SFX) cable for installations with tight or complex routing within the cabinet or shelter.

Precision unrolls new cables

With the increase in demand for high reliability microwave cable assemblies, Precision Measurements has developed metal jacketed microwave cables using high purity silicon dioxide which resists temperatures in excess of 900c.

Special processing developed by Precision Measurements has resulted in low dielectric constant microwave cable which can be operated in excess of 20 GHZ and provide a low insertion loss and VSWR.

Specially formulated glass developed by Precision Measurements is used in manufacturing microwave connectors which are used in manufacturing microwave cable assemblies which provide a low loss and resistance to extreme temperatures.

The cable assemblies are completely hermetic and provide the best choice for hostile environments.

The performance of Precision Measurements Silicon Dioxide (SIO2) Microwave Cable is unmatched by cables manufactured using PTFE.

Where all Teflon insulated cables change their electrical performance in extreme temperatures, silicon dioxide microwave cable remains stable, indicating an insignificant change in insertion loss and a very small change in phase as a function of temperature.

These unique characteristics provide a solution for precision measurements microwave cable assemblies to be used in various types of aircraft, radars, decoys and electronic counter measure systems.
