The families of 12 New York City firefighters who perished in the Sept. 11, 2001, attack on the World Trade Center have sued the city, saying that the firefighters’ radios did not work properly, the New York Times reported today. The suit was filed in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Manhattan. Though the families already have sought compensation from the federal Victim Compensation Fund, which would prevent subsequent civil action, their attorneys believe the law that established the fund would allow them to sue to recover monies from insurance companies.
