Deputies serving Stephenson County, Ill., will receive “state-of-the-art” mobile radios thanks to a $63,000 grant provided by the Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System, according to the Freeport (Ill.) Journal-Standard. The grant monies actually came from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security via the Illinois Terrorism Task Force, which then funneled the monies to the ILEAS. The new radios will replace units that are “becoming obsolete,” the paper said, with some of the mobile radios being a decade old.
