Aberdeen: Manufacturers should pilot RFID now
Manufacturers waiting to let other suppliers sort through the “inevitable problems” associated with RFID technology instead of conducting their own pilot programs are making a mistake, according to an Aberdeen Group report released today.
With the tight compliance timelines from the U.S. Department of Defense and huge retailers like Wal-Mart, manufacturers taking a “hold-back strategy” face a very real risk of failing to comply—-a result that could be more harmful than the short-term margin losses experienced during an RFID pilot, according to Tom Ryan, vice president of value chain research at Aberdeen Group and author of the report.
“RFID is an evolving technology with significant potential to differentiate the manufacturer,” Ryan said. “Compliance to the mandates is the beginning of the journey, not the end.” For more information about the report or for a copy, visit www.aberdeen.com or call (800) 577-7891.
