Analog Devices shrinks integrated radio
Analog Devices has announced that its new Othello-G direct-conversion radio chip will let the radio in GSM/GPRS phones shrink to 1.5 square centimeters.
The Othello-G provides full quad-band (GSM 850/900/1800/1900) support and integrates virtually all the necessary components for a complete cellular handset radio design, according to the company press release.
“Othello-G enables the most compact GSM radio solution the industry has seen to date,” Christian Kermarrec, Analog Devices’ vice president of RF and wireless systems, said in a prepared statement. “It is more important than ever for the cellular industry to continue looking for ways to lower development costs. We believe our handset customers will be able to achieve significant savings [on materials] with the Othello-G radio.”
