More than 100 million RFID tags were shipped to the Chinese government in 2005, according to market analysis firm In-Stat. China’s Ministry of Public Security uses the RFID application for human identification under the country’s second-generation resident ID card program. In-Stat forecasts that more than 2.9 billion tags will be shipped to the Chinese market by 2009.
Compatibility is an issue, however. According to the firm, incompatible RFID standards remain obstacles for an open supply chain that crosses industries and territories.
