Active RFID market to explode by 2016
IDTechEx’s recently released report, “The Business Case for Active RFID,” noted the industry is rapidly growing, and sales of active systems, including tags, will increase from $550 million in 2006 to $6.78 billion in 2016. In addition, ABI Research said in a report that the market for RFID solutions deployed by aerospace and defense companies will exceed $2 billion by 2011. The report identified the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) sector as one that shows particular promise.
“RFID can fulfill many MRO event requirements by enabling real-time track-and-trace and unique identification,” said Michael Liard, ABI Research director, in a statement. He further described RFID as an “enabling technology that can facilitate a shift from corrective to predictive maintenance strategies.”
