This week, the House of Representatives passed the New and Emerging Technologies 911 Improvement Act of 2008 (HR 3403). The bill facilitates the deployment of IP-enabled 911 and E-911 services by allowing federal funds to be used for such purposes. It also improves 911 and E-911 access for those with disabilities. National Emergency Number Association CEO Brian Fontes said in a statement that “the NET 911 Improvement Act will improve access to 911 for all Americans and help ensure that our nation’s 911 system is able to keep up with advancements in communications technology. This legislation will save lives.”
