APCO keeps governance structure

KANSAS CITY–Membership of the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) here narrowly decided not to revamp the organization’s constitution and bylaws in a much-anticipated vote this week.
APCO was considering the changes in an effort to streamline its governance structure, which some in the organization believe limits APCO’s ability to react to a fast-changing industry environment. While most in attendance supported the changes, the issue fell five votes short of the two-thirds majority needed to pass the item. APCO is expected to revisit the issue next year.
In other news, Gregg Riddle of Illinois was elected as APCO’s second vice president.
