New York county deploys P25 system
Motorola landed an $11.8 million contract from Saratoga County, N.Y., for a Project 25 (P25) communications system that will support interoperability between local, county and state agencies. Specifically, the county will deploy an ASTRO25 IP digital trunked simulcast system.
“It is a P25 standards-based system that provides 95% portable coverage throughout the county,” said Dave White, a Motorola vice president.
The Saratoga County system uses a 12-site, 700/800 MHz trunked, IP-based P25 network to provide countywide digital radio coverage across approximately 850 square miles. The system will use P25 technology on Motorola’s XTL and XTS series of digital mobile and portable radios, which are capable of operating in 800 MHz and 700 MHz. The system also includes integrated voice and data, GPS location, data applications and software that is upgradeable to the APCO P25 Phase 2 TDMA standards, White said.
The ASTRO 25 network will be used by sheriffs, police, firefighters, EMTs and other first responders, and will let Saratoga County officials manage and monitor who is communicating, when they communicate and to whom they communicate. As a result, the county can designate priority access to first responders to help ensure seamless mission-critical communications regardless of the number of users accessing the network, White said.
