Alcatel-Lucent to conduct field demo of public-safety 700 MHz LTE
Alcatel-Lucent and the Alexandria (Va.) Police Department tomorrow will conduct the first field demonstration of first-responder data applications using LTE equipment operating on the public safety’s 700 MHz broadband spectrum.
In August, Alcatel-Lucent completed the first data call in a laboratory environment using the Band 14 spectrum currently licensed to the Public Safety Spectrum Trust (PSST). Tomorrow, high-speed connectivity will be demonstrated between a mobile LTE tower and Alexandria vehicles, said Morgan Wright, vice president of Alcatel-Lucent’s global public-safety segment.
“This time, it’s the next step up,” Wright said during an interview. “We did it in the lab, and now we’re doing it in a controlled field trial.”
Applications planned for demonstration include live video streaming to and from a police cruiser, a collaboration application featuring presence technology, instant messaging and group chat, according to Alcatel-Lucent.
