IPAWS: FEMA, DHS officials outline alerting system, development of new toolkit
Antwane Johnson, FEMA’s director of the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS), and Norman Speicher, program manager at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Science & Technology directorate, discuss the alerting system and how their agencies worked together to develop the IPAWS Program Planning Toolkit. Released in August, the toolkit is designed to help public-safety agencies optimize their use of IPAWS through information contained in fact sheets, training materials and frequently asked questions.
