FirstNet board quiet about hiring process for executive director
During a special conference session at the IWCE 2015 show in March, FirstNet Vice Chairman Jeff Johnson said that the FirstNet board at that time was considering seven candidates.
Swenson said she wishes greater progress had been made in the selection process for the executive director.
“I would have loved to have moved more quickly on the executive-director search, but I didn’t have control over it,” Swenson said. “It took as long as it did, and that has exacerbated the situation. You’ve got to be careful not to make decisions prematurely; so, you decide who the executive director is going to be, and then it is their call to make the decision whether this the right person long term [to fill a high-level position].
“I will tell you that these are all very good people [serving in the ‘acting’ roles]. I’m not worried about their long-term careers with FirstNet, and they know that—that’s the feedback that a lot of these folks have received. I’m not worried about it all, because it’s the way it happens in the government.”
