Mike Miller, RACOM: Next-gen 911 can be a golden opportunity
With this in mind, do you see a lot of consolidation opportunities in the industry?
“That’s a good question, and the answer is ‘Yes.’ Most two-way radio dealers are a single shop run by an owner/operator, and a lot of these guys are in their 50s, 60s and 70s, and they don’t have family in the business or have family that isn’t interested in carrying on the business. I’ve had more opportunity for consolidation here in the Midwest over the last couple of years than I have had in the 15 years before that combined.
“I haven’t taken up on any of them, but I’m super interested in it. When you come up in the business, you learn how to price, deal with customers and install systems. But nobody teaches you how to buy a business and make that work. So, that’s a skill set that I’m trying to personally learn, because I think that will be a growth engine for us, if we’re able to execute it right.”
