Nokia: Fabricio Velez updates development on IMS-based NG911 approach
Fabricio Velez, global solutions architect for Nokia, explains how public-safety answering points (PSAPs) could leverage valuable data from the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) that is part of wireless carriers’ core networks to deliver rich multimedia information—such as more accurate location of emergency callers—into the 911 system. Velez notes that this IMS approach should be viewed as an enhancement to the NENA i3 framework for NG911, not as a replacement to i3. Velez spoke with IWCE’s Urgent Communications Editor Donny Jackson during the Winter Institute hosted last week by the Texas A&M University Internet2 Technology Evaluation Center (ITEC).
