The office of the White House press secretary announced on April 27 that President George W. Bush intends to nominate FCC Chairman Michael K. Powell to an additional five-year term commencing on July 2, 2002 and expiring on June 30, 2007.
“I am gratified by the confidence President Bush has indicated in my tenure as chairman … by the announcement that he intends to renominate me for a second commission term.
If confirmed by the Senate, the extension of my term beyond next June’s expiration date will provide a positive and helpful continuity to the important work that I, and the new commissioners who will be taking office later this year, will be engaged in,” Powell said.
