RugGear: Contributing to the future of mission-critical broadband communication review and market vision

RugGear: Contributing to the future of mission-critical broadband communication review and market vision

  • Written by Martin Haaf / RugGear CEO
  • 29th January 2021

As one of the leading international developers and manufacturers of rugged mobile phones, smartphones and tablets for professional use in extreme safety and working conditions RugGear is becoming an increasingly important player in the field of mission critical communications.

With our high-performance mission critical flagship product RG760 we are proud to contribute to the future of mission-critical broadband communication. The RG760 is the world’s first PTT (Push-to-talk) solution featuring private and public LTE for high-speed wireless communication, even in the most remote areas – to secure reliable communication when it is needed most – especially in emergency situations. Our customers can choose from Public or Private LTE including Band 31 (wide coverage, low power consumption). The device is eMBMS ready, has a SOTI prequalification, is special designed for PTT solutions, has a dedicated PTT/SOS button, an external ceramic antenna for more efficient signal reception, meets important rugged credentials (IP68, MIL-STD-810G, Corning® Gorilla Glass), is compatible with Motorola 13-pin PTT accessories and has a powerful 5600 mAh or optional 10.000mAh removable waterproof battery.

Especially in critical communications section, efficient teamwork is essential – the broadband solution makes team communication much easier, even on a larger scale, secure and stable connections can be guaranteed, which unfortunately has not always been the case in the past. We hope that through various worldwide initiatives, such as the 450Mhz initiative, which we accompany since October, we will succeed in making communication, such as via band 31, more uniform, secure and faster. We are happy to contribute to the future of mission-critical broadband communication – together with our operator partners as well as solution and integration provider partners.

In the past year, there had been a clear push from narrowband to broadband. In the next months there will be huge changes worldwide: Narrowband solutions will continue to move more and more in the direction of broadband – this is already evident in the extremely increased demand for LTE-capable mobile devices with PTT and MCPTT functions. Some private broadband plus public broadband solutions will be mixed to replace the narrow band. In some countries where LTE expansion is already well advanced, such as Spain, we are already at the start of larger project deals together with provider partners. We are pleased to support the use of the 450 MHz technology on band 31 on the hardware side.

Our German-based product development can respond very precisely to customer wishes and reflects state-of-the-art – we have close contact to infrastructure providers and are member of different standardisation committees. RugGear cooperates globally with leading mobile equipment suppliers and operators as well as solution and integration providers to offer industrial customers tailor-made solutions from a single source. RugGear is represented in Europe, the USA, the Middle East, Australia and Asia.

As expected, Hytera Communications again has appealed a $543.7 million judgment against it to the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals, while Motorola Solutions this week filed for second time a cross appeal in the case that was initiated more than four years ago. There was little surprise in the filings, because both Hytera and Motorola […]
  • The private-wireless networking opportunity shouldn't stay too private
Everyone is excited about the market for private wireless networking. And that’s no surprise: It affords all the companies that cut their teeth building big, public 4G and 5G networks the chance to leverage that work into the enterprise space – where margins might be much more attractive. Moreover, it could ultimately grow into a […]

U.K. company Oxbotica has successfully completed Europe’s first trial of a fully autonomous vehicle with no occupants on public roads. The test took place in Oxbotica’s home city of Oxford and featured a new electric vehicle prototype, the AppliedEV – essentially a platform that previews future vehicles for the transportation sector – fitted with the firm’s Oxbotica Driver tech. Florida’s efforts to transition its Statewide Law-Enforcement Radio System (SLERS) from legacy EDACS to P25 technology that is augmented by FirstNet broadband service is largely on schedule, with most public-safety users having P25 devices by July, according to an official with contractor L3Harris. Keith Gaston, the SLERS account manager for L3Harris, said that all of […]
