Orbacom provides comms system to Cumberland County, PA
CINNAMINSON, NJ — The recent installation of Orbacom’s Orbanet T5 communications system in the newly renovated Cumberland County 9-1-1 Communications Center will provide the critical dispatch link to the facility’s 800MHz M/A-COM Opensky radio system.
The Orbanet system consists of the T5 suite of applications, the T5 system manager, responder paging, vehicle ID, external time sync interface, statistics management, universal CAD control interface, eight video-based console positions and 120 channels, most of which will be trunked. The system design provides two added consoles in fire and EMS and police operations that will augment communications during large-scale events. The Resource dispatching software allows users to modify screens, resources and buttons for flexibility and operator control. The equipment is fully compatible with existing and upgraded equipment in the communications center.
Cumberland County commemorated its new 9-1-1 communications center and public safety communications system with a recent ribbon-cutting ceremony. At the heart of the comms center enhancement is the 800MHz Opensky system. Opensky allows the county to have one communications network with simultaneous voice and data, and communications among all emergency responders. Orbacom’s system manages the interface to the Opensky network via analog and Ethernet connections. The Office of Emergency Preparedness is implementing the project with a total budget of $10.5 million. The project also calls for upgrading four existing tower sites, adding two tower sites to increase portable radio coverage, improving microwave backbone and upgrading the facility, equipment and tools.
