Relm receives $950,000 order for ESAS expansion
West Melbourne, Fla. — Relm Wireless has received an order from Texas–based MTW Communications to expand its existing extended sub-audible signaling network. The order totals about $950,000 including Uniden ESAS switches, as well as mobile and portable two-way radios, according to Relm’s press release.
The expansion will begin in the third quarter of 2002, and the ESAS switches should be installed and working in 12 months. The two-way radios will take 24 months.
ESAS technology was developed as an alternative to wide-area networking. Relm acquired the technology in 2000 and has developed enhancements that expand the capabilities of the system.
In the fourth quarter of 2001, MTW became one of Relm’s initial customers for UHF ESAS systems.
“Teaming between dealers that offer ESAS networking can substantially increase the coverage area while reducing operating costs,” said Thom Morrow, Relm’s senior vice president of sales and marketing. “When the expansion is complete, this particular system will cover about 1,200 square miles. Coverage will include Corpus Christi, San Antonio, Austin, Houston and Beaumont, as well as the areas in between.”
